Amy & Roger's Epic Detour || Review || Spoiler Free
Amy & Roger's Epic Detour is an uplifting and beautiful story.
I have been hearing great things about Morgan Matson for a really long time, so I decided to finally pick up one of her books. I must say, I am very happy I did.
I liked this book way more than I had expected I would. All the hype surrounding this book made me nervous and I thought was going to be that one person that did not connect with this book. For some reason the all the hype had really convinced me that this book was going to let me down (I don't even know how that's logical for me to think, but oh well.) Luckily, I was very wrong. This book was anything but a let down.
I really love books where traveling is a part of the plot, so this book was basically perfect for me. There are whole parts where the two main-characters are just driving and Amy is just describing everything she's seeing and I thought I would find parts like this boring, but I absolutely loved those parts. I really love traveling and hearing people talk about trips they've made, now I know I also love to read about it.
Though, the traveling part might be great, I think what makes this book amazing are the characters and the character development they go through. I loved, for one, how Amy and Roger grew closer as the road trip went along. Not just in romantic aspect, but in friendship aspects and the way they grew to understand each other better and better. It was really nice to see how the two of them helped each other with the things they were working through mentally, by just being there for each other and learning each others stories. In a way it was very up-lifting.
Even though I don't think I can say that these characters are two really special, original and outstanding characters, they felt real, and in the end I cared a lot about both of them.
A fun extra in this book are the playlists and pictures from the road trip that are scattered across the pages of this book. It added a fun visual aspect of the book. Morgan Matson made the road trip that Amy and Roger made herself, so all the pictures were taken by herself. I think that this was a great addition to the book.
I think this book is great when you want a more meaningful and up-lifting contemporary book. I really loved this one and it might even be one of my favorite books I have read in 2015.
