With this book Marie Lu took a big step from The Young Elites. This sequel is all you could ask for in a sequel.
It contains a lot of action, great character development and the story also develops a lot in this book.
Of course, since this book is a sequel, I won't write down the synopsis of this book, but I do have a review of the first book which contains a synopsis of the first book. You can find that review here.

The characters in this book are all fantastic if you ask me. There is not one character that feels flat to me in this huge cast. Everyone is interesting and twisted. I don't think there are characters in this story that you can look at as the good guy(s).
Both new and old characters in this book are really well written.
Throughout this book Adelina became a much cruel and stronger anti-hero. I don't know if I should be proud of this or fear this. I am really fascinated by her character and I really love her, though I do have a hard time seeing a future for her.
Magiano is one of the new characters in this book, I absolutely love everything about him. He is very clever and to me he is one of the characters that does have a good heart but surrounded by cruelty. I think it's very good that he can truly calm Adelina down. He also has the most amazing elite ability ever.
Then I also want to say something about Teren because dear god do I love this messed up man. I know, that as a reader, you are really not supposed to care about him, but I do. He is completely messed-up in the head and it's done so wonderfully. He also really fascinates me and I even did feel a bit sorry for him in this books.
The plot of this book was very strong. A lot of great stuff happened and it was all put together in a very clever way. I love the politics that were woven into the story in this book. Last book we only got to see a small amount of politics, it was mostly just two parties against each other, but it got a lot more complex in this book. I really loved this.
The things that happened throughout this book made me feel every single emotion. Marie Lu doesn't go easy on her readers.

I really recommend this series, it's one of my all time favorites! Be warned for a lot of darkness though. I don't recommend this series if you want something a little bit more lighthearted.
I am just someone that really loves all these dark characters and emotional plot lines.
