The queen wants them all killed.
I am a big fan of Marie Lu. I absolutely love the Legend trilogy, it's one of my favorite trilogies ever. So, as you can probably guess, I had quite high hopes of The Young Elites. Luckily, this book did not disappoint!
The World
The Young Elites is set in a world that is made up. It's fantasy, but not high-fantasy. There is no such a thing as a magic system or mythical creatures. The only thing in this world that is magical are the Young Elites.
Even though the world wasn't that special, I really loved it. I liked the atmosphere and the culture in this world a lot.
The Characters
Now, I expected the Young Elites to be a group of unwanted survivors of a disease who have magical powers and want to fight for justice. I thought that we could look at them as super heroes, but I don't really think they are super heroes at all. I have no idea who is 'team good' in this book, which I really like.
All the characters are dark and twisted. Especially out lead character, Adeline. She is so dark and has really bad thoughts sometimes, to the point that I was kind of scared of her thoughts.
I really liked her as a lead, but having a dark and broken character like her as lead made it emotionally challenging to read this book sometimes. Not that I had problems with that.
The Plot
At first I was scared the plot was going to be a bit cliché. The synopsis sounds like something that has already been done in the Young Adult genre. Though I was absolutely wrong by thinking this was going to be cliché!
The plot was fun and interesting. I don't want to give to much away, but I really liked the pace and the things that happened. I flew through this book, but I can see that some people might find the beginning a bit slow. If that is the case, don't worry, keep reading, the pace will definitely pick up towards the ending!
I absolutely loved this book and I can't wait for the sequel! I think this is a very promising trilogy!
If you see any grammar and/or spelling errors, please tell me! English is not my first language, I'm still learning!
